Who Are Your Guardian Angels and How Do You Connect with Them?

Angel therapy, angel signs, guardian angels, and personal angels are popular terms often used by spiritual coaches. They teach us how to align with these energies and connect with them for guidance in different situations.

According to these beliefs, guardian angels communicate with us through subtle signs. They may guide us through our intuition, repeating numbers, symbols, people, or meaningful coincidences. These signs often appear when we need support, direction, or reassurance.

Sometimes, these experiences leave us amazed. We may feel protected, guided, or even saved in unexpected situations. Such moments can feel magical and difficult to explain, giving us a sense that a higher energy is watching over us and helping us along our journey.

But do you know one thing that is common among all of us? We all have our own guardian angels. The only thing we often lack is a conscious connection with them.

Spiritual wisdom exists everywhere and can be found in every corner of the world. Different people, communities, faiths, and traditions have their own ways of understanding and connecting with higher energies. These teachings have spread across the globe and continue to evolve with time.

Today, as AI and technology are rapidly transforming our lives, many people are also exploring spirituality in ways that are more convenient and accessible. We often look for practices that fit easily into our lifestyles, allowing us to experience spiritual energies without making major changes to our daily routines. Everything is expected to be available at our convenience.

This is one reason why concepts such as angel therapy and guardian angels have gained popularity worldwide. However, the idea of divine guidance and protective energies is not new. Similar concepts have existed in Indian culture for centuries.

Over time, fear, misconceptions, and the stigma associated with performing strict rituals have distanced many of us from our roots. As a result, we often overlook the deeper meaning and significance behind these ancient practices. Instead of understanding the wisdom they carry, we tend to focus only on their outward forms.

Through this article, I would like to share my understanding of this concept and explore its deep roots within our culture. My intention is to bridge the gap between modern spiritual ideas and the timeless wisdom that has always been a part of our traditions.

The word angel comes from the Christian tradition. In Islam, angels are known as Farishtas, and similar concepts of divine messengers or guiding spiritual beings can also be found in Judaism and ancient Persian traditions. Across cultures and faiths, the idea of unseen forces guiding and protecting human beings has existed for centuries.

In Indian culture, however, I believe these guiding energies can be understood in a different way. They are none other than our ancestors. Our ancestors are our guiding light, constantly watching over us, blessing us, and helping us navigate life’s journey.

Let me share an interesting story with you.

One of my relatives once told me about an experience from his time working as a doctor in a village in Rajasthan. During his stay there, he had many fascinating conversations with local villagers. Among them was a community of people who worked as labourers during the day. According to the stories he heard, some members of the community would occasionally engage in planned robberies in nearby towns. After carrying out these thefts, they would hide the stolen jewellery and cash in remote locations, often without leaving any visible mark to identify the spot later.

Months later, when the time came to recover and distribute the hidden valuables, they would first perform an overnight ritual in honour of their ancestors. After spending the night in prayer and remembrance, they would go to the hidden location around 3 a.m. They believed that their ancestors would guide them through intuition and inner knowing. Following these intuitive impressions, they would identify the exact spot where the valuables had been buried and begin digging.

What fascinated my relative was their unwavering faith that the guidance came from their ancestors. Whether one sees this as spiritual communication, heightened intuition, or the power of belief, the story highlights a deep connection between these people and their ancestral traditions. For them, their ancestors were not distant memories but active guides who continued to influence their lives.

This story is not meant for entertainment, nor is it about proving whether the incident was true or false. The important point I am trying to highlight is the strength of their connection with their ancestors. Whether the guidance was used for the right reasons or the wrong ones is a different matter. What stands out is that they felt guided, and they trusted that guidance completely.

Today, we find many spiritual and psychological practices that emphasize the importance of understanding our ancestral roots and family lineage as part of personal growth and healing.

Concepts such as soul contracts, cord cutting, shadow work, inner child healing, karmic patterns, and even angel connections often encourage individuals to explore the influence of their family history, inherited beliefs, and emotional patterns. While people may approach these practices through spirituality, psychology, or personal faith, many have found them valuable in their journey of self-discovery and emotional healing.

You may choose to view these ideas through the lens of science, spirituality, or faith, but one thing is clear: the search for connection with those who came before us continues to play an important role in human life. And when we look closely, we can see that many of these ideas have roots in our own culture as well.

Over time, however, many of us became disconnected from these traditions. We were often told to perform certain rituals out of fear. We were taught that if we failed to honour our ancestors in specific ways, they might become displeased, bring misfortune, or even affect future generations. As a result, the connection became fear-based rather than heart-based.

Perhaps this is where we lost the essence of the tradition. Instead of being encouraged to connect with our ancestors through love, gratitude, and respect, we were often taught to approach them with anxiety and obligation. What if, instead, we saw our ancestors as our guides, well-wishers, and sources of wisdom? What if we connected with them not because we were afraid of the consequences, but because we genuinely wished to honour the lives and sacrifices that made our own lives possible?

Maybe then, these ancient practices would feel less like rituals to be performed and more like relationships to be nurtured.

To understand this better, imagine yourself as a tree. The rings within its trunk represent your ancestors. Each generation leaves something behind—wealth, wisdom, values, karmic patterns, emotional wounds, unresolved struggles, or certain recurring challenges that continue through the family line.

If you find yourself facing any of these patterns and, more importantly, have the awareness that they need to be healed, changed, or transformed, then perhaps you are the one chosen by your lineage to bring that change. You are not here merely to carry the weight of the past; you are here to understand it, learn from it, and evolve beyond it.

Your ancestors are meant to support your growth energetically, just as the roots support a tree. However, many of us carry their unresolved pain as a burden—in the form of suffering, limiting beliefs, fears, emotional wounds, and inherited patterns. Instead of drawing strength from our roots, we become weighed down by them.

This is why it is important to become deeply rooted within yourself. Just as a tree grows stronger by extending its roots deeper into the earth, we too need inner nourishment, self-awareness, and a strong connection to our foundations. Your DNA carries not only your physical inheritance but also the story of your lineage—a story that has been unfolding through generations.

The invitation is not to remain trapped by that story, but to transform it.

Heal. Grow. Rise above the limiting beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you. When you begin to create balance within yourself—especially in the areas of life connected to safety, belonging, self-worth, and personal power—you may start to feel a shift. What once felt like a burden can become a source of strength. The connection that once seemed distant can begin to feel supportive and guiding.

In that space, your ancestors are no longer simply figures from the past. They become your greatest supporters, your silent well-wishers, and the guiding force cheering for your growth and evolution.

And when you rise above the limitations you inherited, you do more than transform your own life. You create a new path for those who come after you. The next generation will inherit not only your DNA but also the new story that you had the courage to write.

So, how do you connect with your guardian angels?

In my understanding, the simplest way is to connect with your ancestors. You do not need complicated rituals or extraordinary abilities. Simply choose one ancestor—a grandparent, great-grandparent, or even an unknown ancestor whom you feel drawn to—and begin building a relationship with them through gratitude, remembrance, and intention.

Many spiritual traditions believe that each person has guiding energies watching over them. Whether you call them guardian angels, ancestors, spirit guides, or simply divine support, they cannot always be seen with the physical eyes. They are experienced through feelings, intuition, synchronicities, signs, and energy. The more consciously you connect with them, the more aware you may become of their presence in your life.

The New Moon is often considered a powerful time to begin this connection. In Hindu culture, the New Moon has long been associated with remembering and honouring those who have departed from the physical world. It serves as a sacred opportunity to express gratitude and pay tribute to our ancestors.

You may choose to follow traditional rituals if they resonate with you. However, if rituals do not feel aligned with your path, keep your practice simple and sincere.

Sit quietly in meditation, preferably under the moonlight or in a peaceful space. Close your eyes and invite the presence of your ancestors with love and respect. Ask for their guidance. Thank them for the life, wisdom, and opportunities that have reached you through generations. Set an intention to heal old patterns, release what no longer serves you, and remain open to growth, healing, and abundance in all forms—whether it is health, wealth, peace, happiness, or success.

Above all, remember that intention matters.

Approach your guardian angels and ancestors with respect and gratitude. Be mindful of your actions and your karma, because one of the most powerful ways to transform inherited karmic patterns is by creating new, conscious, and positive actions in the present.

As you continue this practice, you may begin to notice subtle changes. Perhaps it will come as a feeling of support during difficult times, an unexpected opportunity, a moment of clarity, or a deep sense of protection and guidance. Whatever form it takes, remain open to receiving it.

Your ancestors are not behind you; they are part of the foundation upon which you stand. Their story lives within you, and through your healing, growth, and conscious choices, that story continues to evolve.

May you honour your roots, heal what needs healing, and become the bridge between the wisdom of the past and the possibilities of the future.

Lots of love.

Shweta
